Hi guys,

I've never really used backup software before (properly) but I finally think I'm beginning to see the benefit :)

Roughly how big a backup file would approximately 150GB of data create, and how would you backup that up ready for restoration?

I suppose I'm after a sort of 'idiots guide' :p

Cheers!

for that amount of data an incremental backup would be best, it does one back up initially with compression which would guessimate be about 80-100gb depending on what the content of it is. Any new files or changes will be backed up into a secondary file which will only have the changes backed up into it.

personally for that size back up i would not use software and incremental backups. I would look at some RAID 1 setup, where you can mirror a 1tb HD to another 1tb hd then just keep everything important on it.

i just backup my main C drive which is a 16gb install down to 6gb file and do system state and incremental backups like twice weekly or monthly.

I should realy backup some of my most important data but don't have the cash for extra hard drives.

you could just buy another hd and keep a second copy of the important stuff on it, without using automatic raid configuration, then just get a software that synchornises the folder from one drive to the other. cheapest easiest option realy.
