Hi just wondering what everybody uses to backup there computer ie. what software? I have nero backitup but I cant help thinking there is something much better out there especially seeing its let me down once already!!

I can highly recommend Acronis True Image 10 for backing up. I run it once a week to make an entire copy of my windows drive.

On a daily basis, I use SyncBack to backup 'my documents', outlook emails/contacts, firefox profile etc. This daily backup combined with a weekly image backup does the job for me :)

I use the built in windows backup. My server runs a weekly full backup on my parent's PC and on my PC then a daily incremental job for the next 6 days. When the weekly job happens it renames the old backup file which is kept for a week so i can always go a week back if needed.

It takes up around 60Gb in all. I don't bother with the OS at the moment, I've never had any luck with ghost images, they never seem to restore.

allthough not a recommendation, i've got vista ultimate, and the PC backup feature of vista is brilliant

I actually had to restore an image when my PC started behaving strangely. The restoration process was incredibly simple, inserted the Vista DVD, booted from it, at the windows setup screen i selected a restoration instead of installation and selected my NAS device as the location for the image

it retrieved it and rebooted it and everything was completely as it was.

Such a shame you dont get this on home premium as its an amazingly usefull product with no faffing about creating boot disks or whatever.

SyncBack seems a nice little program as does Acronis True Image 10 though the later I haven't had a chance to play around with yet but if its good ill definately buy a copy. Thanks for the advice
