I have a file server which has loads of files with long filenames and directories. I use second copy to backup the files to a external hard drive everyday, but get loads of errors due to too long filenames or extensions. Are there any backup software that will copy files that have long filenames or extensions? I used to use x-copy before. I want a backup copy program that copies each dividual file and not create one large file of all the data (like a .iso or.bkp file)
Thanks in advance guys :)

I am using windows server 2003 by the way, looks like synctoy is only for windows xp and vista???

robocopy is what you want

it's made by ms, and is commandline only, the same as synctoy, but for server environments

veritas backup software

The only one id recomend... Its not free, but by the gods its good.

It's also a bit overkill if your just copying files to another hard drive. If it was going to a tape drive i'd whole heartedly agree, but it's not.

Maybe a little over kill, but its a good bit of software and will do what he wants. Although Robocopy will do it also, but if he is in IT, maybe a good skill for him to pick up too..

It's an expensive skill, considering BackUp Exec will cost you in excess of £500.
