Backups arent something I have really messed with in the past, and although I know it is a relatively simple process I don't want to go and buy the wrong software.

Firstly I would be interested to hear what you guys recommend as a good (not ridiculously expensive) option.
Also are there any out there that can create a recovery disk (or set of disks)
ie. when PC goes wrong you just put in the recovery disk and it resets the computer back to how it was when the backup was made.

Regards
James

Windows 7 already has an excellent backup utility included that allows you to take an image of your HDD. You can then restore the image if something goes drastically wrong.

You can save the image to an external HDD (which is the best bet) or you can use blank DVD's if your stuck :)

Ok that's good to know.
Unfortuneatly I don't have windows 7 nor do i plan on getting it.
I have installed it on the GFs PC and I am not liking it at all.
I also need to be able to run backups on various operating systems.

Thanks
James

I agree with Phil about Acronis. Been using it for a couple yrs now and love it. You can make a Acronis boot-disk and run all operations from the cd using mouse and keyboard. No need to have the program installed on the HD. Full or partial backups/restore to from various medium. Various compression levels, password protect, open/view archieves to access files. It's loaded with features.
