I am looking for a Fireproof data backup solution.

We currently use USB HDD's but risk assesment shows we need to keep these in a fireproof enviroment. I have tried searching for Fireproof HDD chassis but had no luck.

It seems that most people use Fireproof safes. Is it possible to get a safe with pre-drilled holes for the cables? Basically i need a USB hard drive in a fireproof enviroment.

Suggestions? Ideas?

If the fire-proof case has holes in it for cables, in the event of a fire, the cables will melt, and then you will have holes in your no-longer fire-proof safe!

I'm sure it would be adequate to put the USB hard drives into the fire-proof safe after the backups are finished and the drives disconnected from their hosts. However, you would be better off removing the USB backup drives from the building at night and weekends since a fire-proof safe under several thousand tons of rubble won't help you recover your business.

Can I suggest you use tape instead! Cheaper & easier to make multiple copies, easy to remove to a separate location.

I would just put them into a fireproof safe. No point in making holes that fire can get through, plus the cables will be destroyes as the poster above said.

You may want to look into backing up to an offsite location, perhaps to a London datacentre.

How much data do you need to back up?
