Hi, I'm looking for a way to backup all my files on an office Windows XP machine, one so that if there is BSOD, virus, corrupted system files. I can simply restore it to the point of backup. I understand you can do images of the HDD, but are there better seamless solutions where I can just plug in an external HDD (or Internal) and let it do its job?

Acronis True Image is popular for drive images. Syncback or Synctoy are popular for simple file backups. The latter is quicker and more convienient than the other, but if you would like to be able to restore the entire OS to an early time, I'd check out Acronis.

Image is king for saving system states. If you really don't mind reinstalling and then just restoring files then NTBackup, although showing it's age a bit, is actually quite good.
