Hi,

I have 3 pcs

a) amd 3500 1gig RAM 160g b)amd 3700 1gig RAM 300g c) old pc 1.7ghz, 200g 512mb RAM

Option a is main pc , option b is sisters pc and option c is just a backup...

However I now need to backup all files on regular basis whats the best way I should go about this:

a) use option c as a server? I have never set one up is difficult? do I use windows server 2003?
b) or can I use an external storage device?

I was hoping to use a method which would automatically back my files up as I use my pc throughout the day, is this at all poss? Or would I need to run a prog each time I wanna backup?

All help and advise would be most appreciated..

Thanks in advance..

You don't need a server to do this, just normal xp will do. Setup a shared folder on machine c. Then you can use windows backup on machines a and b to backup files you want to the shared folder on machine c at whatever time you want.

There are different ways to use windows backup, I use a full bacup every monday at 6pm and then tuesday to sunday I use differential backup at 6pm which only backs up the files changed since the last backup was run.

How much data do you need to backup?
