With my RAID 0 system having crashed and burned for the fourth time, I find myself unable to restore the backup. I used Vista HP backup wizard and made the backup as usual. 68Gb. Now the PC is up and running again I need advice on how I can make complete, everything full t*ts up backups so I don't have the heartache anymore. My current problem is really doing my head in. I have the backup files on a SATA drive in the PC. It is only used for Backups. Vista does not see any backup files there even though I can see them. Some 350 odd backup compressed folders. I have spent all morning trying to figure out how to restore from these individual files. I can't even browse to them when the wizard asks me if I want to add files or folders. There must be a way of restoring from these files.

The PC could become airbourne before long so help me Obi Wan.

Thanks

sounds like you've got a screwed controller or hard drive

i've never had a raid 0 fail, and i've had about 15 different raid setups in about 4 years

acronis true image is best for backing up whole drives/arrays

i presume you've gon into the 'backup and restore center' then clicked 'restore files'?
thats the only way you can successfully uncompress that backup.
You cant just open them with explorer.

I used the bios to configure 64k stripping. It never falls over unaided I must add. I have either installed something or run some cleaning utility. This time it happened when I installed a new 4870x2. The CCC crashed the PC immediately. It took an age to get it off and reinstall. Performance in FarCry 2 was nothing short of dissappointing. The graphics were no better than my 8800GTS 320Mb. After a while the PC just restarted and then reported that it couldn't find the OS. It turns out the array had gone again. Just like the third time one of the discs was unavailable. A full rebuild later and now Vista cannot see my backup. I can see all the files and look at them. I can even copy things from the backup but of course most files are compressed and I can't uncompress them. Anyway I returned the card and bought a GTX280 OC2 BFG instead. Vastly superior and more to the point the PC still works. Any ideas how I can make use of my backup files seeing as Vista can't?

Thank you

posted at the same time! look above
you should just point the restore centre in the right direction and follow the wizard

vertica, I can see and use some of the files, only those that are broken up into seperate folders are unavailable to use. There must be a way of reconstructing the files.

Tell me what you need?

This is what I have.

Just a load of files. Backup wizard does not see them. It says "Location Unavailable"

try pointing the wizard to the top level folder of the backup:

D:\HAT2CORE-PC\

it maybe you are being too specific and the wizard doesnt detect the target as a backup

Ok so I have managed to rescue everything that is really important from my backup files. Luckily I had a network BU as well so I have pieced together everything that is important. I have rebuild Vista and my RAID array again and am about to try Acronis. Thanks
