Bad AiO or iffy OCUK delid? Not sure what to RMA...

*edit edit* I think I'm an idiot... normal humans don't temp test with AVX versions of Prime. I even knew it was AVXing and said as much but somehow didn't remember that that's bad.

Now using Prime 26.6 (pre-AVX).
10 minutes, 12 threads, max 73c. Still in an open case, but it's a warm day and I'm pretty content with this after all. I assume the radiator is cool (well, 33 degrees now) because it is huge :)

Nothing to see here folks, move along!

Hi folks,

Just assembled a binned+delidded 8700K, Asrock Taichi and Corsair H115i Pro.

Thus far, it seems to be game-stable @5ghz with 1.312-1.344vcore, which is a good start! Runs about 50 degrees playing Ark survival.

But as soon as I hit Prime 95... this thing gets hot. Like 88 degrees after a few minutes so I stopped it. I have an AVX offset of -3, so it's running @4.7 during this. Seconds after ending the test, boom, down to 35 degrees.

This... doesn't feel right for the volts, the delid, and the 280mm top rad.

Corsair software says the pump and fans are maxed, but the water pipes and radiator do not feel as nearly warm as my old one used to get with a 1600X under it. Sticking a temp probe into my radiator suggests it's at 29-30 degrees. I've replaced Corsair's heatpaste with Kryonaut. No different. The metal brace behind the CPU socket is painfully hot to the touch. Running in an open case, ambient 24C.

I feel like something probably needs RMAing because heat just isn't getting away from the CPU, but I don't know whether it's the AiO pump or the delid that isn't right.

Advice appreciated...

*edit* Just 4-worker threads in prime = 75 degrees... Something is very wrong :(

What version of Prime 95 are you using? I assume you are using newer one and the OC settings has a AVX offset applied.

Try Prime95 version 26.6 and report back!

I'm at 4.8Ghz @ 1.265v with LLC Level 6 gives me 1.280v under full load in Prime 96 (V26.6)

Room ambient of 23*c, Inside case(Mainboard?) 24*c

Max temp of cores being after an hour of Prime 95 Small FFT's;

Average - 72*c
Core 0 - 69*c
Core 1 - 68*c
Core 2 - 72*c
Core 3- 69*c
Core 4 - 68*c
Core 5 - 69*c

If I was to use the new version of Prime 95, i'd be hitting 85*c easy tbh.

Spec in sig....

Edit: Also got these voltages set instead of auto, auto was way high! VCCIO etc was over 1.2v!

VCCIO @ 1.05v (Recomended by 8 Pack)
VCCSA @ 1.1v (Recomended by 8 Pack)
CPU standby @ 1.05v (Recomended by 8 Pack)
PLL Termination @ 1.0v (Stock voltage)
PCH Core @ 1.0v (Stock voltage)

I have a Asus Hero X board though....

Lol, I spotted that at the same time you were replying and have edited my first post xD I even knew it was AVXing but by brain didn't flag that as a problem :(

Uh, so yeah, 20 mins of Prime 26.6, 5ghz, 1.344v, and 79 degrees peak for any core, with the coolest being 74. I consider that warm but under control :)

I'll try your voltage suggestions and have another go; you're right that my VCCIO wants to be 1.224v. Thanks Asrock! :o

Asrock Taichi here. I... preferred the colour over the Asus xD

And I really appreciate the guidance; I would not have known about any of those. My last Intel was a Sandybridge (...which I only gave up 10 months ago...) :)

Found VCCIO and VCCSA. PCH Core was 1.0 already. I don't see PLL Termination or CPU Standby; my list of options is below...
- VTT DDR 0.68
- PCH 1.0
- PCH PLL 1.05
- VCCIO 1.05
- Boot CPU PLL (Auto)
- Eventual CPU PLL 1.196
- VCCSA 1.1
- VCC PLL 1.2
- CPU Cold Bug Killer 1.196
- CLK VDD 3.384
- DMI 1.014
- CPU Internal PLL (Auto)
- GT PLL (Auto)
- Ring PLL (Auto)
- System Agent PLL (Auto)
- Memory Controller PLL (Auto)

(Lol, dropped the vcore by 10mv and failed after 15 mins of Prime. Guess my initial hunch was pretty spot on then!)

TBF if the rear of the motherboard is that hot I'd question how well the heat is being carried off the CPU. It's delidded, but is something interfering with the mount?

I mean, it's 5ghz and peaks at 80-81 in extended Primes... I don't think I can ask for much more without a custom loop, tbh. But yeah, I wish the rear was a little less toasty.
