Bad battery effecting stability?

Hello,

A few months back I tried overclocking my P4 - got to around 3.5GHz stable and gave up - prime tests took up too much of my valuable time.

Figured I'd try again today, and couldn't even get 3.23GHz (a 1% increase) stable.

Recently had issues with CMOS settings erasing, so either motherboard isn't charging battery or battery is dying - w/e - first question is if this could be affecting stability?

Put a new battery in and find out

I'd imagine not, as the battery is only there to stop the bios losing it's settings when the system is powered down.
