Long story but ive been having a few problems with my USB slots (Shuttle SN41G2) and it was recomended to update the bios and chipset drivers...

So i updated bios in windows with winflash.. but it looks like i have used the wrong bios (i was tired) so i cant even get into windows now just hangs on boot.

Whats the best way to re-flash it without a floppy drive?

Thanks

depending on the shuttle i think you can with some modern bios's flash them by doing the old floppy trick, but using a USB flash drive.

If the worst comes to the worst the options include
Hotswapping the dead bios chip into a booted motherboard that uses the same type of chip.
Replacing the bios chip (you can buy them)
Sending the chip off to be flashed by a third party, a couple of companies do this.

Do i realy need a new bios chip?

The pc loads up and gets the the point where is looks for windows then comes up with loads of errors...

Ive been looking into a bootable cd then try a re-flash?

This is why I never mess about with anything like BIOS
Sure I change a few settings like OnBoard sound and which Primary Graphics Adaptor to use, but apart from that, thats it.
When things like this happen you just run into more trouble than you started with.

Well if it's POSTing then that's a good sign. If it gets that far, I would try repairing your installation with your XP disk.

yup, if it's booting then the bios is probably recoverable without too many problems.

I would suggest checking the bios settings are the same as they were before the flash (things like memory/cpu voltages etc).

What are the errors anyway? (they may help narrow down the problem)

no need, if its posting then your ok. i would go into bios and set it to optimised defaults. exit and go from there.
put your original bios file onto a floppy and press alt-f2 or whatever your shuttle needs to flash the bios. let it load the correct bios and then restart. set to optimised defaults, exit and restart your pc.

you dont need to go into windows to flash the bios. no floppy?, thats a different story then.
can it boot from a usb drive or cd/dvd?

Is Windows Command line basically DOS or is it like it?

failing all else, just use recoverybios.com.
they will put the correct(latest bios for your board) on a new chip or your old one.

http://www.xpcbios.com
found this french site. the guy has made a bootable cd with latest bios for shuttles on.
i have downloaded and burned the file and cd for your model. if you need it i will post it to you?
let me know your adress.
cheers
rob.
