Ok was flashing my new abit pro to the latest bios from windows, it then decided to freeze :mad:

I had no option but to restart, and not to my suprise the PC bios is corrupt, what are my options?

I have tried clearing the cmos and removing the battery, but no success, can i get a bios chip for this board, or are they soldered in place? any suggestions are welcome..

You can order a new chip from Abit for £18, get them to re-programme your dead chip for £12, or buy a new chip from that auction site for £12.

The latter would probably be the fastest.

Which Abit Pro is it?

if you know someone else with a similar mobo or 1 that uses the same BIOS chip you could try a hotflash.

You haven't said if your bios is AMI or Award, anyway, one of the two methods below may work.

AMI BIOS
========

1) Rename the desired AMI BIOS file to AMIBOOT.ROM and save it on a floppy disk. (e.g: Rename FILENAME.ROM to AMIBOOT.ROM)

2) Insert this floppy disk in the floppy drive. Turn On the system and press and hold Ctrl-Home to force update. It will read the AMIBOOT.ROM file and recover the BIOS from the A drive.

3) When 4 beeps are heard you may remove the floppy disk and restart the computer.

Award BIOS
==========

1) Make a bootable floopy disk.

2) Copy the Award flash utility & BIOS file to the said floppy disk.

3) Create an autoexec.bat with "Award_Flash_Utility BiosFilename" in the content. (e.g: UTILITY.EXE FILENAME.AWD)
Sample on how to create an autoexec:
a. In Windows, open notepad
b. In notepad, write "UTILITY.EXE FILENAME.AWD" (without the " ")
c. Save the file as autoexec.bat

4) Boot up system with the said floppy (it will take less than 2 minutes before screen comes out)

5) Re-flash the BIOS & reboot.

Hope this helps!

thanks for the suggestions guys, I currently have just a blank screen, no text or anything and like most people do not have a floppy drive :/

Can the flash be done via a usb at all?

Th mobo is abit pro P35

Thanks again,
Lea

Nah you'd need to be able to get into the BIOS to change it to boot from USB.

You can RMA it as faulty, or search Ebay for 'Abit IP35 Pro BIOS chip'.
