Bad Company 2 Beta Won't Open

My game won't run.

When i try to open the application, the intro movies play, but when i see the final 'legal' screen it just closes and goes back to desktop.

I uninstalled and reinstalled but it still does the same thing.

What os, CPU, ram etc ?

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
I7 920
Corsair 6gb dominator
GTX 285
Corsair P128 SSD

I restarted and tried again, it went into the menu after 2 tries. I managed to make a soldier name then went to join a server and crashed.

Now it's doing the same thing, crashes after the movies.

The crashing at server browser thing if you used that is a known bug, it just kicks you to desktop without warning. Maybe that problem is affecting you more. What client are you using? Steam or a downloaded one?

But i have only managed to even get to the main menu once.

Im using the downloaded version from file planet.

It's a long shot but why not try another client from somewhere else? Maybe your file you got from Fileplanet was a bit iffy. No harm I 'spose as it's only 1.4GB

Run the application directly rather than through Steam etc and make sure you run it as an administrator.

Open with WinRar and the it should be a self extracting file!

Ok i downloaded the torrent version and installed that. Same thing happens.

I tried changing the administrator and compatibility settings. Same thing happens.

I couldn't get it to run on my win7 machine either, but if you go to the actual exe file and run it as administrator it works ok. Via steam though it would just blackscreen, even as admin. Bizzare. Either way, works fine now and loving it.

i had that to start off with then i realised it was doing this direct x patch in the background.

There's a steam beta client out that is supposed to fix this, in steam go to File>setting>participate in beta, though as you said you can just run the exe as admin.

are you running the actual .exe file as admin, or running as admin through steam? You want to be doing the actual file itself.

I don't have steam. I am running te file as admin yes. I've even tried compatability modes and nothing works.

do you have the latest updates for windows?

i always find that CTD can be caused by drivers :cool:
