I'm not sure if this belongs in here or networking. Anyway, anytime I try to play a game in BC2 I keep getting high pings of 300+ which means terrible hit detection. I was wondering how I could fix this because I do have the necessary ports forwarded and I have Windows firewall off. I also have a Bt HomeHub 2 if that helps.

have u tried seeing what ya ping is just connecting to s test site like speedtest.net ? because being an sky customer before that used bt lines for internet my standard ping to the best host on that site would be 70-90 pretty much all the time so when gaming i would always have a ping about 50-80 higher than my mates. now i have virgin media and my ping to there is usuall 10-20 and when gaming i pretty much always have the lowest ping of my friends.

also are you playing over wireless or cable? because that can have a serious effect, also if anyone else is using it or backgound apps?

also are u just connecting to any server? i would suggest (if you havent already) selcting the region of servers from europe (assuming you are from here :p ) as you will get the best pings there over american servers. on europe ones i usually get a ping of 80-150 but on american ones ive been on its gone up to about 250-400 sometimes.

hope i've helped :)

Are you reading it from the scoreboard? If so, unless you run the game as admin (or both steam and the game as admin) it won't be right. I think it also displays the round trip time rather than the usual one part so divide the time by 2 to get a better impression.

The poor hit detection is because the game has terrible detection more than anything else :)

I haven't did a ping test and yes I'm getting my readings from the scoreboard - thanks for the help guys!

I'm playing over cable. And I do select europe (I'm from NI)

Ping test to Maidenhead, which is pretty close to London if I'm right.

When you search for a list of games is 300 the lowest ping you see ?

Or are you using the play now button that searches for a game automatically for you?

Seems something is using your interwebz.

It doesn't even show pings when I go into the server browser and I never use play now, it usually puts me into a game with no one it nearly.

I'm the only person using it right now.

Yea ping isn't too bad considering the distance, jitter however is awful it should be between 0-2, something is up :/

I fixed it, turning off utorrent lowered the pings by about 300.

The game is so much better now, no more running through walls

Did another pingtest to the same place:

Thanks for all your help guys!

Generally people who don't know about how torrents work leave their upload high which saturates everything else, you can still use some of it before it really start having an effect on your game pings.

But to be safe, yeah just kill it completely :D
