This game generally runs quite nicely, but when there's lots of action in front of you, on some folliage dense maps it can drop below 30 FPS which i hate

I have a dual core running at 3.8 and a GTX 280, is the proccesser not being quad core holding it back or will a card overclock/replacement see the biggest gains?

I'm running high settings and want to keep it that way to be honest, on the more sparse maps it's fine all the time, but on the more dense maps when your at certain parts with people running all over it can bog down slightly and i'm keen to get rid of this

Make sure HBAO is turned off and maybe look at dropping AA/AF down/off. Can force DX9 in the Settings.ini file for some free fps and a minimal IQ hit too.
Otherwise there's not you can do but look to moving to an Quad/AM3 processor and a new graphics card.

For comparison:
My 720BE @ 3.3Ghz, 4gig RAM, 4870 1 gig on Win7 64
@ 1680x1050, High settings, 2xAA/AF, HBAO off, DX10
=A steady 50fps, and I can't say I've ever suffered from any noticable slowdown/fps changes between maps.

On the setting's it's got AA set at 1X, yet in the game there is no way to turn it up or down, i looked in the setting's INI file and could not find an AA setting

HBAO how does that affect the quality if you turn it off?

I've got XP so i think thats DX9 already

I dont know how to show fps in-game, there is no console?

My dual core hasnt had any problems, though as I'm on XP I run on DX9.

edit// ahh fraps of course :)

If you're running on XP (and thus stuck on DX9) you'll be limited to 1xAA.
HBAO (as I understand it) is some form of fancy horizon-based lightning system. No doubt it makes a difference to the visuals, but I can't comment as to how much.

To be honest, limiting yourself with XP/DX9 then you're hardly seeing the game as good as it can be anyway. From what you're saying I don't think you can expect more from you have; either do a decent upgrade or drop some settings to claw back some frames.

EDIT: And yeah, turn off Bloom. Not sure if the game takes a noticable fps hit from using it, but you'll find you can shoot a whole lot better without fancy bloom effects blinding you!

Thanks guys, i just downloaded the latest Nvidia Drivers (had 194 before i think) and it's made a noticable differance, so might not have to turn anything off after all

This is my config, got the same card as you but an i7 920 processor. Runs at over 60 FPS all the time and looks great.
