Here's something that doesn't make any sence.

Just today my PC has decided it nolonger has sound, I couldn't play any music in winamp yet my hardware was installed fine, everything was fine yesterday also.

So I firstly updated my Creative Audigy 2 driver but to no avail so I re-installed DirectX and Winamp and still the problem persisted.

I then tried uninstalling the Audigy and enabling my on-board AC97, same problem NO sound yet the hardware is visible and correct in the hardware profile of the PC.

Anyone got any ideas? Very, very weird.

Notice how DirectX diag reports no soundcard, control panel is greyed out in the same way yet the hardware is present in the Device Manager!

No conflicts, this has just happened out the blue.

Did a search on the net and there are LOADS of other people with this problem and mysteriously they all have WinAmp 5.2! Shame on each and every discussion forum/group there isn't any solid resolution just the general "try re-installing" or "get the updated driver".

The plot thickens. :(

Booted into SafeMode to remove the drivers completely, wouldn't load explorer! so I was left with a blank screen.

So I ran cmd instead thinking corruption or virus.

I did a virus scan and spyware scan in safe mode and quite a few things came up, serves me right for using a keygen, I've since removed that illigal software. :o

So after the machine was supposidly cleaned I rebooted into Windows. Logged in as per usual and this time my desktop started to load, 5 seconds later random reboot!

Rebooted into safemode and it worked fine. No reboot but I now had a functioning safemode and desktop etc.

So I did a chkdsk and removed everything from the windows/currentversion/run reg key. Then I rebooted and logged in with *** same problem, an instant reboot.

Does anyone have any idea whats going on? It must be something loading when I hit windows (seeing as safemode is fine) but I'm unsure of where to look, msconfig selective start seems to make matters worse to be honest?
