So a friend and I have cobbled together some basic parts to build a basic PC for another friend's restaurant. Software running fine et al., but there's still no sound.
Grabbed an old Dell system with their standard motherboard and a Pentium 4 1.8 Ghz (will get name and model tomorrow, since it isn't here right now).
Currently using the onboard sound yet it doesn't seem to play. Error message informs me of a bad DirectSound driver, but I installed the latest version and it still faults. System tree displays no errors, but the sound settings don't detect a sound card device at all. I'm a bit confused, and I haven't done this kind of thing in years so I'm very rusty.
Anyone have any ideas? It's running Windows XP SP3 (I know, I know...). I may have to track down the driver disk at some point, but not sure if it's worth it.
Thanks!
