im running a e6300 at 3.1 ghz 8800 stock and im getting 25-30 fps during intense action in cod4

seems a bit poor to me

ive got texture settings on normal not high., 1680x1050, forcing vsync 16x af 8x aa in nvidia control

what do you reckon

cheers

Try reinstalling your drivers.

First uninstall, then run driversweeper....reboot....run driversweeper once more...then reinstall drivers.

Also make sure there aren't any funky background processes or spyware apps stealing CPU power.

At 8xAA i would say its normal. My GTX used to dip down to around 35 in the intensive parts of the game and that was @ 1680x1050 all max 4xAA 16xAF.

really? Because thats about the performance I get with my 3850pro @ 900mhz in the single player game. Usually about 50fps average but during intense parts can do low 30s. Everything maxed out and 16x AF 8xAA

So if a GTX is dropping into the low 30s high 20s I'd say something isn't right.

I'd say that was normal taking into account that you have vsync is enabled.

I'm running cod4 at 1280 x 960 with 4xaa, 8af with everything else maxed, and the framerate often drops as low as 37 fps in intensive battles.

Fraps log below.

for anyone thats interested ive sorted this :)

i checked temps with riva tuner and it was 100+ c during gaming

basically the card was full of dust, i had no side on my case and all the fans turned down so there was no air flow

i took out my gtx blew it out hoovered it etc

put the side back on (which has a 120mm ys tech blowing over the gpu) and wacked my rear scythe 1600 rpm up to max, then i turned the fan upto 90 % in rivatuner

ive overclocked it to 605/954 atm and its load temps are 68 max

ive turned aa down to 4x and v sinc off, now im getting average 60+, max of 90 and an ocasional low of 35 under extreme explosions and madness in grass etc

played a half hour at those gpu clocks, no freezing or artifacts etc, going out in a min will see if she'll do 620/1000 later

so the moral is dont forget airflow and keep your innards clean and dust free ;)
