Bad internet connection.. how to resolve it?

Im currently having probems playing games online. I will be walking forward normally then it will freeze for a second then i will appear somwhere i diddnt want to be.

Im guessing this is down the the fact that the router is downstairs and i am upstairs.

What is the best way to get around this? I cant wire it directly..

Do i need a new router? a Homeplug?
