bad mic/speaker feedback on a macbook?

hi guys,

iChat is unusable without plugging in external speakers due to the high pitched feedback that i (and whoever i'm talking to) gets...

it can be stopped instantly by plugging in speakers or pressing the mute button in iChat so its definitely a feedback problem on my end...

i have tried setting the speaker volume much lower and the input volume in system preferences much lower... doesn't help much... (also tried flicking the "reduce ambient sounds" checkbox... no go)

so all in all, in this case, the macbook doesn't "just work"... has anyone else experienced this? or know what i can do about it?
 
Take a look in the iChat prefrences, make sure "High Pitch Squeel" tick box is unticked and see if it does it again? If it does see below.

It is a defect on some macbooks and macbook pro's, send it back.

Get a new one.

i think that although apple products are great, some of you lot will defend them to the hilt even when they, as a massively successful corporation, are obviously wrong... i am trying to use the built in mic and speakers, with some pre-installed software (not a third party piece of hardware or software)...

so does this happen with everyone? or do you agree with joshua that its defective?

I suspect when your talking to someone you can hear your own voice on their microphone (because they have their speakers turned up too loud) and that's causing the uncontrollable amplification and runaway feedback effect

Get them to mute their speakers while you talk (just to test), and if that's the case try lowering your broadcast level or just tell them to lower their speakers

Its also a possibility that you've incorrectly routed the audio on your laptop, have a gander in the system preferences.

I remember seeing some videos on youtube of a girl who had a macbook that it squeeled when she was using the webcam or on ichat.

It's most likely what EVH said.
