Hi! I'm having constant fps problems with oblivion. I playing the game all settings high with 4xAA and 16xAF. My fps is 20-30 when I'm walking in a forest with lots of grass. When fighting an enemy the fps can even go to 15. Tom|Nbk suggested in an other thread that the problem could be QTP3 so I reinstalled the game but the problem is still there. Any suggestions?

there is big review in custom pc mag, showed how bad the 2900was in some some games with AA enabled.

In fact in the tests it came below the 8800GTs on all but power consumption. But the ATi will pick up as more games support its type of shader processing.

This is bizarre I have exactly the same spec's as you yet I run with awesome performance with 8xAA, It may be the Beta drivers I was using. I will try with 7.7's

Just had a mooch about In Oblivion and got this

Min Max Avg
35 119 54.127

This was with

8xAA BOX
16xHQAF
HDR
1680x1050
Everything Maxed

Have you tried the low polygon grass count mod. The thing is the grass in Oblvion kills most top end hardware. It absoloutly annihilated my GTS and did the same with my 2900 till I put it on. There is almost no difference with it aswell.

Try this and report back!. Performance for me at least in Oblivion is outstanding atm.

It gave me a couple more fps. But fps is still about 20 in the shivering isles and can drop even to 16. Near skingrad I get 20-25 fps. This is strange indeed.

What rez are you running?

Earlier I was using 7800gt and I didn't reinstall windows. I don't think that is the problem. I still get 11170 in 3dmark06 and other games run fine(at least I think so).

Going from NV to ATI I would always reformat without exception... even though it's usually fine relying on uninstall + driver cleaner you simply can't beat a good reformat for guaranteed peace of mind. Do it, shouldn't take long. :)

I've read that, seen peeps having to end up doing a full format going from ATI to Nvidia or Nvidia to ATI, but seen others slate them and saying DC will fix it, obv they have tried all the obv and a full format is their last resort.

I do not like or trust DC but to be fair I have not tried it in recent builds.

Funny thing is that it's quicker to do a full reformat than it is to spend several hours trouble-shooting the problem... and you end up with a nice clean and fresh base to start with. :)

Nope everything stock apart from the low poly count mod. I can't understand why your FPS is so low ive never seen it that low.

You got a link to the Low poly count mod?

I'm also having these Oblivion problems but at 1400x1050 with 16xAA/AF and HDR turned on, around 27fps average.
