Bad PSU?

Hello, the good news is that I just got my little Eee 901 and it's great. I'm having to adjust my install habits to suit the small HD, but being small, light and beautiful makes up for that.

The bad news is that my desktop is often failing to boot now. All the fans power up but that's it. I even removed the graphic card to get a reaction and it didn't even notice. Now I can get around it if I unplug the power cord to the PSU for five minutes it starts normally. I did my googling and motherboard batteries, BIOS corruption and bad PSU were mentioned. I thought until I figure out the problem I'll just use standby and not power down (OS = winXP), but today it suddenly powered down without warning while in standby. It started fine again after taking out the power cord, but I'm obviously worried that the PSU might be bad and could damage my system. Yet I don't want to switch the PSU only to find it's a motherboard problem.

Anyone know what this might be or what I should try?

Thanks!
