Hi,

I bought a series of components for a system build yesterday and when built it would not POST. I stripped it back and benched the barebones and isolated the problem to a bad stick of RAM.

The product details are as follows:

Kingston Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C15 2666MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black (HX426C15FBK2/16) Stock Code: MY-230-KS

Invoice no: 4834151

The system will POST with one of the sticks in the correct slot, but will not POST when I swap the sticks or have both sticks mounted.

Can I return the bad stick rather than the twin pack? (Because otherwise I will have no RAM to use).

Please advise.

Cheers

You have to return both sticks. Its in OCUK's RMA procedure. I'm in the process of Returning some to them & it says so in their RMA email.

As mentioned above, you have to send the whole kit back.

The only way you can avoid downtime is by buying some more and then asking for refund instead of a replacement to recoup the cash.

Well that's poor. Damn shoddy. I drove from Sheffield to pick up the stuff for that build. After this is sorted I probably won't use OCUK again.

It's not Ocuk's fault at all so that's a ridiculous statement. Memory comes direct from the manufacturer, what do you want Ocuk to do, open and test the sticks? lol

I would guess if they are sold as a pack, hey should be returned that way but your statement above is a little unfair. Any good, particularly electrical components, can come DOA. I've had them, and I guess a majority of members here at some stage has or will have. I decent company shows it's worth when it comes to matters likes this. OCUK won't be a problem.

You might be able to RMA a single stick to Kingston directly. I have done so in the past with Crucial memory that went bad.

Should have done it online RMA, would have been sorted within a week.

had to send my ram back yesterday and now my machine is offline, im without now for probably 4-5 days working, and as someone who has a disability i rely on the pc for certain things. So a week is not good. I would drive up and get it replaced same day too if i had the time, Im about 4 and a half hours away from ocuk.
Ocuk should do what the forest do and send out a replacement with return label etc in the package so your pc isnt offline.

OcUK probably can't afford to take the customer's word for it that everything sent back is genuinely faulty. They test first and if nothing is wrong, it gets sent back to you - assuming you pay the postage.

Doing what the rainforest do is probably taking huge chunks out of their profits but given the stupendous range of products they sell, they don't really have much choice.
