so I had my mates pc over today and was going to overclock his 4690k.
I ran cinebench to get a baseline and the temps were up near 60c this was before overclocking. after an overclock it was up to near 70c even on idle on stock its around 35c

I tried reseating the cpu block twice but still got the same results.

If I opened edge it would jump to around 60c even on stock where as my 4770k @ 4.4Ghz with the phanteks PH-TC14PE air cooler in the same room idles around 20c and even with edge and chrome open it doesnt jump up.

this is my old board and cpu but I used the PH-TC14PE with it and to be honest I cant remember the temps ever being that high unless I was running prime...

what temps should I be seeing on this cpu with an H80i?

Check that there is no dust on the radiator.

Also try going into BIOS and check the Vcore voltage, My gigabyte board came with Vcore way too high causing high temps like this. Just had to reduce and check it was stable.

I also had an issue when opening a Sony Vegas my temps would blast up and not go down when exerting until i went into windows power plan and reset them to default.

So go to Start menu and search power Options - click change plan settings on the selected one, maybe test with power saver one. And choose restore defaults. This is for Win 7 at least. Be similar for other windows versions.

Let me know if any helps.

When I had the system I had it running at 4.4 with my air cooler and was seeing lower temps. I was running CPU-z and keeping an eye on the core voltage it wasn't jumping up. I did check the radiator for dust and it was fine. I've talked him into letting me try a good air cooler on it.

Trying a good air cooler is exactly what I would suggest.

My money is on the air cooler giving lower temps and less noise too.

yea I must admit when I changed to the PH-TC14PE I was really impressed with it over the H80i it was cooler and quite compared to the H80i

My first one was red with TY-140 fans with frames painted black, then later TY-143 for their red frames. Didn't need their speed thought. :D .

yea I was thinking about changing my fans to the TY-143 as think they would look better in my case.

but I recently put some Noctua NF-F12 focus flows in the front and rear of my case so the ones on the cooler dont look too out of place now.

still tempted to change my mobo to my Asus Maximus VII Hero board...

If you change mobo, you will ave t change the 'desert camo' fans too. :D

What are your system air temps now? How much above room temp is the air temp going into coolers?

That's my own system it has the 4770k at 4.4ghz it idles around 20c in games it very rarely goes above 45c my room sits around 18c according to the room stat my 970 idles around 24c.

But yea been looking at fans but I like the ones that are in there they do the job well I'm not sure what I would replace them with unless I got the black industrial noctuas

Your temps are very good! Sounds like playing for fun, not because there is any need to. Don't get me wrong, I do it all the time too.

yea with my own system I do like to play about with it for fun..

Ive picked up an i5 4590 that im planning on building another system up with to replace my lads 8350 but still in 2 minds on what board to keep in my own system.

The Hero board was mine originally but never used it. My mate used it for a while but ive ended out with it back. the 4770k that's in my system did 4.7Ghz on the Hero board with an H100i cooler not sure what voltage he was running though.

8350 are not bad, just getting down the evolutionary chain. I need something like it for an AMD testing test station. While there is some difference in heat transfer between different Intel series CPUs, it is not much .. especially compared to the difference between Intel and AMD.;)

I've not used Hero so can't be of any help. Sounds like it worked quite well.
