Going on from my thread the other day about authetication problems the Pro has developed further issues.
It now won't install any software....at all. At first I thought ah it just must be some rubbish software, tried downloading a package from Apple...installation fails.
So I rang Apple knowing full well I've got Applecare and got put through to India (JOY)
I had to repeat the spelling of my name 3 times (its not exactly complicated) and the serial number took FIFTEEN minutes for the guy to get correct.
But when he did he was pleasent enough and we tried a few things but to no avail he asked me to take it to the nearest Apple store where he will make an appointment.
I asked if an Engineer could come to me. I paid for this support, why shouldn't they? He said they would if it's hardware related, so I told him about some issues I've been having with my DVD writer (had made a thread about this before on here) and he agreed to book an engineer. Gave him my address details then the conversation went something like this
Me "Are Apple going to wipe any data from my machine. 99% of it is backed up but I have a lot of applications I'd rather not reinstall"
Him "I'm just making the appointment for you now"
Me ".....I'd like to know if I'm going to lose any data or not?"
Him "No problems sir, the appointment is nearly booked"
So I gave up with that question
Him "Ok you will receive a call from Apple to confirm a pickup time, and pickup/delivery/billing address"
Me "billing?! Why am I being billed, it's under warranty"
Him "ah yes it's all covered, you won't be charged"
So that phone call ended leaving me quite uneased tbh
- pay all this money for Applecare and whilst I'm not slating the guy because he was genuinely trying to help me, he simply had a lot of trouble understanding what I was saying/asking with me having to repeat everything several times.
Anyway, got a phone call about 30 seconds later from a nice lady in London and arranged a time for the machine to be picked up, so I have to sit around indoors on Friday waiting for a delivery man to come, I've been told I don't need to provide any disks, nothing, not even box it up, the courier is going to bring his own and I quote 'special' packaging for it
- She asked if I had data on there I didn't want to lose I said yes, she said no problems and asked me a load more information about what the problem is so I feel a lot more reassured it's going to be dealt with properly
My suspisions and pigeons instinct tells me a combination of possibly a faulty DVD drive and HD causing the issue when I originally installed SL and just causing ongoing problems from there.
Anyone else had their machine taken for repair? any ideas how long it might take?
Cheers guys
Jake
