Bad wireless range - use wireless repeater or is there anything else?

HI,
at the moment I'm using my Squeezebox network music player wired from an Ethernet cable from my Router in another room.

I tried wireless with it but I have lots of thick stone walls and could not get signal strength more than 6% - no good!

I want to use an Ipod as a controller for it now (using WiFi) , and Im wondering the best way about it, considering my wireless range from my router isn't sufficient to use the Ipod in the other room.

My initial thoughts are to plug the Ethernet cable from the router and my SBox into a wireless access point in my listening room, and as the WAP is in my listening room the Ipod would have no problem connecting to my Network.

I'm new to networking and surmised this solution from the looking on the web, but is there a better way?

Im new to networking really, so any help appreciated.

Not got the Ipod yet!

I'll try connecting normally first of all before I go down the WAP route.

Wouldn't a cheapo 2nd hand auction site wireless router (or a cheapie from OCUK:cool:) do the job if it could be configured as an access point?

I believe most can nowadays...

Remember, its just so I can have wireless IN THE SAME ROOM....so that one may be a bit overkill for my needs.

Just a thought...

Im on Virgin Media....would having a cable modem (before my router) make any difference to the choice of Wireless Access Point??

Would it not be just an ethernet cable feed and therefore any one will do as its using the ethernet ports and NOT the RJ45/phone socket or whatever?
