I'm working on my first build and have got to the point connecting up the power supply connnectors to the motherboard.

I've a Seasonic S12 energy 650W and a Intel D975XBX2.

There are three connections on the board a 2x12, 1x4 & 2x4

The power supply has a 2x12, 2x2, 2x4, and lots of 1x4 but there in groups of three for use with IDE HHD correct? There also a couple of adapter cables with the motherboard 2x2 to 2x4 and 1x4 to 1x4 to 1x3.

Can anyone help me out, with which ones should be conected and where?

Thanks
Craig.

Use the 2x12 and the 2x4.

The 1x4 is only needed when using the older 2x10 main connector.

It does say this somewhere in the boards manual but it's well hidden. I remember it took me a while to find it after installing one of these boards myself recently.

Yep, on page 69:

"The 2x2 main power connector on the desktop board is backwards compatible with the ATX12V power supplies with 2x10 power connectors.
Use of the 1x4 power connector is required with ATX12V power supplies with 2x10 connectors when using PCI Express cards that can consume up to 75W."

The 4 pin molex isnt even on if the 24 pin atx is plugged in. so it's incredibly pointless!
