I tried googling for baffles, exhaust baffles, car baffles and most of the results bring up motorbike related results.

What are the baffles in my car - and what do they do?

Any help or links would be great.

Cheers

Think of it as like a woolly fabric type stuff in your silencer(s) which makes things quieter. Baffles on bikes tend to be removable fairly easily because they sound massive amounts better without. On a car it really depends on the engine and car as to whether running without a silencer is a good idea or not.

So the baffles are actually in the backbox? So if i have dodgy baffles (loose?) and i change the backbox that would cure it?

Yep. Thats why its sometimes called a "silencer". :D

If its loose baffles you have, they are most definately contained within your backbox. Swap that over for a new 'un and it should cure any rattles/excess noise.
