Well, just got my 1st accident under my belt!

Was coming to a little mini roundabout near Sainsburys in Newton Abbot (near the Penn Inn) and I needed to turn round and go back on myself. So I slow down, indicated right (there's no right turn available) and so to get the car round in one go I go to the left a bit (bearing in mind i'm indicating right), start to turn left and the lady in the other car carried straight on and went into my drivers side  she didn't seem to slow down or even acknowledge I was indicating! The door doesn't shut properly on its own but just needs a bit of welly to shut it, big dent in the drivers side and a lot of scratches on the door/front quarter panel. Nothing really major, still driveable.

She parked up in the car park, waited for me and she gave all her details etc and was all very nice about it. She didn't say 'it was my fault' but I didn't think she would but it was definitely her fault. Looking very guilty and giving all her details straight away kind of gave it away.

Already rang my insurance company and gave details of what happened, and they advised to ring her insurance company to give another set of details. Will do that tomorrow as their claims dept was shut as of 6pm.

So there we have it, 1st and hopefully last accident! Just a bit annoyed and shaken up more than anything. Bah :(

i bet she tells her insurance company that you indicated left and changed your mind lol

i had a case like it very similar in fact, a few years ago. i was defending the following driver. i think it went 75:25 against him as the court decided he was overtaking in a hurry

I assume it was a single lane road? if so deffinately her fault. If it was a dual lane then its not so cut and dry. Indicating will be irrelevant as she will no doubt claim you were not indicating and you cannot prove you were ( if it was a double lane which i dont think it is by the sound of it).

This kind of thing happens a lot round my area because of the millions of mini roundabouts that people dont slow down for and also ASSUME they know which way someone is going before they actually reach it!

Should get sorted pretty sharpish by the sounds of it... she drove into you plain and simple. The only bane you MAY have is that technically on a round about you have to give way to the right... she will have hit you on the right side so her insurance may argue that you pulled out on her. What actually happened is sometimes irrelevant unless you can prove it, ie witnesses.

Good luck anyway!

This is why I always treat mini roundabouts very cautiously and more like junctions, because all the other drivers just seem to pretend it's not there and the LAST thing they expect is for you to do a U-turn on it.....

Had exactly the same thing happen to me myself but fortunately the white shiny car covered with chrome did it's thing and the other guy noticed before he ploughed into it (he was ignoring the roundabout too, bombing up to it at idiotic speeds )

At least you're OK.

a round about is a round bout , you go round , not matter how big/small it is :o :D her fault , women ..obviously... :D

So if im on a round about 3 lanes wide, like you find in a big city, i am allowed to just swerve to the inside lane and cut you up? and if you dont stop fast enough and hit me its your fault is it? cool ill have to remember that ;)

You give way to the right on all round-abouts. The question here is wether it was a single lane one or a double lane one. Its looks and sounds like a single lane in which case of course she just assumed he was going left and went for it... IF however it was a double lane and he was in the left and she in the right then HE would have cut her up by going round possibly. Hard to knwo without seeing the place in a photo.

I hope she doesnt try it on.

Ie.

"He pulled out on me , he didnt give way to trafic on the right and i ran into the side of him"

Yes it was a single lane road (yes bad drawing i know :p), and what i didn't say in the first post was that she was actually behind me in the line of traffic, and as I indicated right do a U-Turn and proceeded to go right thats when she hit me. It wasn't as though I was pulling out from another lane!

First thing I was ever taught when learning to drive. "Assume everyone else is a **** driver and expect them to try and hit you"

KaHn

Sorry to hear about the accident. I've been in this situation before too.

Mini-roundabout up ahead, 3 exits, all single lane, I'm the only one at the roundabout as I approach, I can see a car in the distance. As I get closer I indicate right, start to move as far over to the left to get a good swing around, slow right down, I pull onto the roundabout and start to swing right... when the car that was coming up straight on decides he wants to pull out

Because I wasn't going fast I quickly slammed on. He was looking at me like I'd just ****** his daughter.

Idiots.

Hope you can sort everything out quickly.

That the mini just outside the entrance to the car park, just after going under the bridge, or another?

Almost happened to me today, I was going round roundabout and some crazy old woman in her 4x4 decided to look, acknowledge I was there and indicating to turn but proceed to drive on. Luckily the entrance to the exit was big enough that I got infront of her and she slams on/hurls abuse at me lol...*sighs*
