Well,

I have to say... despite LOVING my 360... I am a PC lover. And so I have decided to buy an upgrade for my PC. I need a quick look see though from you wonderful people.

I will be buying an x1800XT card + a motherboard, anyone suggest the motherboard? (a socket 939 please) it really must overclock great... cause My venice reaches 2.8GHZ... so HTT speed must break 300 ;)

As for Video, I gather its not really worth grabbing a 256MB card now? I suppose 512MB one? something like a

PowerColor ATI Radeon X1800 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail ?

Ram - I currently have 2 x 512MB sticks. I was thinking of grabbing 2 more, as it would be far cheaper... would I really be losing that much performance over going 2x1GB?

Lastly, I suppose the venice at 2.8 will be perfect for a month or 2, but after that... I will grab an x2 3800.

So umm... anyone want to comment or anything :p

the graphics card looks good if you have the money to waste then u could go all out for the 1900xtx,

the ram you will find much harder to get the high clocks out of with 4 sticks installed, it will have to be run on a divider close to stock, as has been documented to be crappy with 4 sticks compared to two.

otherwise should be fine and the timinigs are the key now on ram anyway so doesnt matter.

Truthfully, I am running my ram at stock at the moment on a divider :(

resolutions... I have a CRT monitor so I can run at 1600x1200. I gather a lot of people will still agree that the x1800XT is the best value for money and performance right now? 512MB?

What about motherboard? anyone else wanna make a suggestion?

For a single core you cant go past the Athlon 64 3700+, for dual core its either X2 3800+, X2 4400+ or Opteron 165 / 170 / 175 / 180.

The X1800XT 512MB is definitely the best value for money card going. And increasingly 512MB is going to be required for gaming.
However if you can stretch to just £317.19*Including VAT then the PowerColor ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB is the go.

As for motherboards, if overclocking the DFI are good boards...
the DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D is a good choice.
If not overclocking you could go for the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra or MSI RD480 Neo2 Crossfire; both solid boards.
