Finally got round to installing BG 1 and 2 with expansions, its a rpg ive been meaning to play. Ive installed the TUTU mod along with its degreener patch (stops water looking green!) and im ready to roll.
Questions:

1) How long will it take to finish them all, as i understand its a pretty big game.

2) recommend me a class, im leaning towards fighter

3) Any good online walkthroughs

4) tell me why i should be playing this game:)

well for bg1 i would say around 35 hours and about 40for bg2 :) but it depends a lot on how good you are at the game and how many sidequests you do

i went with a paladin when i played them and didnt regret it

if i were you i would avoid walkthroughs unless you get stuck :p
as long as you have a thief in your party to detect traps & you save and rest after each fight to replenish spells and hp you should be ok ;) its also worth playing the game on normal instead of easy (not sure if you were thinking of playing on easy?) because if i remember correctly you get less exp on the easy setting

if you have trouble getting over the graphics then just force yourself to play it for a bit more because its one of those games that grows on you and you will find it hard to put down after a while, it can be hard in places but its so rewarding when you get a good strategy for a battle and win

also dont forget you can pause the game with spacebar and issue commands

edit:
just noticed question 4 :p
you should be playing it because they are 2 of the best games ever made :D

1) Dont worry about it, if you get into it it will seem like it just keeps going, ive no idea on BG1 + 2 + expansions - but its a crazy number, let the hours blend together ;) But its all about the quality of the story
2) I 2nd a Paladin, a really good fighter class with some great abilities depending on which you pick
3) Again I agree with Langlest on this one
4) Cause its got one of the most bad ass main bad guys I can probably think of ;) haha

Just watched the intro to BG1 and all i can say is i really want to kill that evil looking knight. Anyway ive made my character and ill play the game tomorrow.
Heres my spec:
Fighter
Strength 18/44
Dexterity 18
Constitution 18
Intelligence 4
Wisdom 3
Charsima 18

BG1 can be completed really quickly if you want to, i can do it in around 8-10 hrs but you don't really want to play like that. Explore and savour all the little details, it is a big game. BG2 is absolutely huge, the main quest takes around 50-60hrs i'd say, but the best thing about BG2 is the side quests, there are hundreds of them, and they are really good. You'd be missing out if you didnt invest a lot more time into it.

With mods I can't think of many more games with more longevity.

EDIT: You may want to try a higher roll for wisdom as it effects your saving throws, but as a fighter i reckon you'll be alright on that roll. Intelligence is pretty worthless unless you are a mage so its fine putting it down to 3.

Wisdom and intelligence are worthless for a fighter so ive used the points to max out the important stats:)

If you play it "properly" then BG1 & 2 with both expansions should see you getting over 100 hours.

I always played a Ranger - they're great at taking care of casters (which are usually your main worry in this game). But just play any class you want. The balance is a bit off for some, for example the Monk is unstoppable, but don't let that affect your choices.

But enjoy - despite Dragon Age, Baldurs Gate 2 is still the best RPG ever crafted.

You are in for a treat OP, I played the 2nd one a couple of months ago (never got round to finishing it when it first came out) and I enjoyed every minute of it. Make sure you get the widescreen mod for higher resolution. I normally play as a plain old fighter in these sort of games but decided to go sorc for BG2 and I did not regret it, such a powerful class! Timestop is the most amazing spell! You could always try gamefaqs for a walkthrough but I would recommend only using it if stuck.

In all honesty I envy you playing BG the first time.
It may not be my no 1 best game of all time but it is pretty close and you are doing the right thing playing BG1 with tutu.

enjoy !

Even BG1 with the tutu mod is more that playable and really does not look that bad at all even in these days of full HD graphics.

As for how long will they last , not long enough.

As a sub note these games are not everybodys cup of tea but if you have not at least tried them you are making a mistake as they are far superior to most others in the RPG/strategy arena.

Right ill remember to install the widescreen mod when i start playing BG2 which should be in about a 100 odd hours time:)

Anyway im already a little stuck im on low health and getting beaten by some low level monsters. Im out of potions, and i tried the rest button but it doesnt heal you.

Swear i have Baldurs gate 2 in the garage somewhere in a Box, going to have to find it cause i haven't played it yet, only the first one
