I know I'm probably the only person over 30 that has never played this game but is it predominantly single-player or multi-player?

Single player mostly, though you can play it multiplayer. It is an amazing game, probably my favourite of all time.

I actually like these more than the original BGs with the various mods, looks nicer and less glitches.
