Thus, we have pushed back the release date of the game. Our release date is now November 30th, 2012.

-------------- Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced Edition ----------------

While Beamdog's Trent Oster has talked about potentially doing a number of Enhanced Editions after Baldur's Gate, a tweet announces Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced Edition will be out in 2013 - as well as no GOG version at this point:
#bg2ee will be in 2013. We have no plans to put the game on gog. The Jellybean encryption sounds interesting, but we are hard up for time

I have to agree with the "better on GoG" sentiments and that if Steam does get some jazzed up version, it'll be a great shame if GoG doesn't.

Each to their own and all. Not sure I agree though...

Steam as DRM doesn't stop me moving the game to another machine, and I'd be amazed if the compatability isn't fine on Steam. Other than that it's the same game so I'm not sure how it would be any different.

Steam is my platform of choice and I'm just looking forward to have it on the same platform as 99% of my other games.

Yep, after having it on GoG, the only way I'd get it on Steam too is if it were 'upgraded' and exclusive.

Aside from achievements *spit* and cloud saves, you will get the same experience just adding the GoG version to the steam library?

So if it's the same experience how is the GoG version better, you may as well get the Steam version and have it rolled into the system?

I said in jest that getting it on Steam would be better in my first post, but providing that they're the same cost, why would it be better for anyone get the GoG version over the Steam version if they didn't already have it?

I've no desire to get into GoG vs Steam in a thread that should be focusing on the great games rather than how you play them, because quite frankly they're incomparable services with different markets. If it's the same game, it's the same game.

Best to just leave it at that. As you said, it would be silly making this into a Steam vs GoG debate.

I somehow managed to never play the original baldurs gate, despite playing, the sequel, neverwinter nights and all other similar games. If it comes round on steam then I won't have any excuse not to purchase and give it a go! :D

They bundled all the games and expansions on a single DVD a while back, I got it for ten quid.

Good if you dont care about presentation and just want a cheap hard copy of the classics.

Why do you need an excuse when it's on GoG, it's been as low as £2 less than a large coffee from a cafe!!

Meh, just use the GOG promo.

http://www.gog.com/page/promo_buy1_get1

Buy Baldur's Gate 2 and Planscape Torment (two greatest RPGs ever) for $10 and get Temple of Elemental Evil for free.

That's a few hundred hours of gameplay right there. :)

As I said earlier,

1) GOG is totally free of any form of DRM. You might not find it useful but for me it's a must to not worry about my games today and in 50 years time and being able to move the installer around wherever I want without internet access, play it on different machines at the same time, etc.
Not to mention that I wholeheartedly support any DRM-free distributors.
2) It moves the monopoly a bit from Steam which is a good thing in my book.
3) GOG guys make sure that they're games are compatible with the latest OS and such, keep in touch with developers and have great community willing to help out.
4) GOG focuses on a different market and still growing, I see great potential in their business strategy that will benefit all oldschool gamers in the future. Hence why we need to support them.
5) Steam doesn't need our support really.

So if you have no desire to get into a debate about that, don't.

I take umbrage with point 3 Mr Krugga.

GOG still haven't made Dungeon Keeper 2 fully compatible with W7. And I know there's some fix out there, but their version should be fixed if they are selling it as such!

Compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit)

Many people have bought that game and complained about it, or brought the issue to GOG's attention and they haven't done anything about it, or are not able to fix it. :(

This will be a buy from Steam for me.

Regarding GOG... what will they do in 10 years time when all the Good "Old" games are already on Steam and people allready own them? Probably be just a "Mod scene" making games compatible with newer O.S's when the publishers cannot be bothered.

The majority of GOG business is people who purchased games many years ago on disc and lost/damaged them.

I have no intention of losing/damaging my Steam account in 10 years time :)

Also, the GOG forums are full those in tin hats who believe that running Steam consumes vital amounts of RAM and CPU cycles and the thought of running it on their system at bootup is heresy.

Yeah, I know about the issue and it bothers me too.
