Guys, im tempted to go play 1 and 2 of the series - but dont know where to get them from. Can you buy them and download them from anywhere?

You can get BG, ToSC, BG II, ToB boxed set for a tenrar on the popular river based online store

Started this recently. BG II is just so much better than BG.

i started to play this but got stuck right at the start... at the beginning of the first one ya in a nice town and things are easy to kill.... in the second one ya thrown straight into le poo xP

but it does look nicer :)

I thought the general opinion was that BG was better than BG II. Better story and whatnot, and infact the Tutu mod actually ruins a lot of what BG has to offer. I don't know whether true or not (I've only played the 2nd one) but that's what I've mostly read.

Some people actually prefer the first game but the general opinion is that BGII is better.

I would think only an extreme purist would saythat Tutu 'ruins a lot of what BG has to offer'. You can disable enhancements you don't want.

Other mods do a lot for the feel of the game, such as the BG1 NPC Project which adds hundred's of BGII like banters.

It's a shame to miss out on a great game. Even if you do prefer BGII in the end, it's well worth playing.

TuTu just allows you to play BG1 in the BG2 engine, with the extra BG2 classes.

This means BG1 in huge resolutions, and means you can start at lvl 1 with classes that weren't originally designed for it (like the Monk).

I was reading up on people who "solo" BG2 - ie, play the entire game with 1 char. Anyone actually tried it? I understand that the benefit is you get masses of xp, so level extremely quickly.
However I suspect you'd end up just "cheesing" most of it - ie, exploiting the game engine by edging forward to only pulling 1 enemy, closing doors to splitenemy parties, etc. I should imagine having an insanely high level multi-class char would be fun, though :) I think on the BG forums someone had a lvl30/lvl15 dual-class PC and they hadn't even finished BG2 yet, let alone ToB...
