A few years ago now since I went.
Obviously if you are staying in a resort, you will have plenty to do there, whether relaxing or doing some sports.
It's well worth taking a tour outside though.
We did one which took us around various ornate Hindu Temples. The most impressive of which is one which is said to be guarded by Monkeys. It's basically a temple complex that has hundreds of Monkeys running around it, they will even come and try and put on a show for you to get some food!
Finally we went to another famous temple (cant remember the name) which is slightly out at sea on rocks, it was also a great place to watch the sunset.
They also have some great evening shows, but most of those can be found in resorts.
