Is anyone on OcUK a Balisong / Batangas / Butterfly trainer or knife flipper?
When I was in Philippines one of my family members had a grand collection of Balisongs he had been awarded over the years for his service. They were fantastic display pieces ranging from keyrings with 1" blades to huge sword like blades measuring 20"
At a local market I had a play with a live blade and realised it's a true art form being able to 'flip' (if that's the right word) a Balisong and also that it would be easy enough to lose a finger, thumb or eye if used even slightly incorrectly (holding the bite handle instead of safe handle)
That said, I was sold so got home and ordered a Squid Industries Kraken v2.5 trainer. A trainer is a dull blade, bottle opener or comb.
I wont use this thread to go into the legalities - Live blades are legal in some countries and states, others not. Needless to say I wont go waving my trainer knife around on a night out or when going to talk to my mortgage advisor! Similar to me not taking my toy metal cap gun out into the street that i've had since I was 7 unless I want to be mistaken for using a gun and have armed police come for me.
Some info.
