There seems to be lots of recommendations for the ballistix RAM on here with the 5300 kits being recommended to hit 1000+mhz.

But, there's also talk that although they clock well, they have a tendancy for failing?

i appreciate crucial have a great CS and good turnaround....but i'd much prefer working RAM!

how many people have had them fail?

should i look at these instead?

A pair of mine died after 3 weeks.

Took them a week and a half to replace too. Although, the week part was waiting for them to reply to my email. Once they had they were quick replacing the RAM.

All four pairs I used failed. Pairs 5 and 6 were sold without being opened.

But I have been very very unlucky. Loads of people have been running them without any problems.

And it's more of a Micron D9 problem than a Ballistix problem.

If you're not looking to get 1000mhz out of PC5300 or PC6400, or really hate going to the Post Office, then something like the OCZ would be a better bet.

But the PC5300 Ballistix is in a world of its own when its running fine.

If this comes back into stock then it's a great choice. Mine runs at 1066mhz 5-5-5-15 at 2.1v. I've had it upto 1160mhz at 2.2v.

But it's only got a 1 year warranty, compared to the usual lifetime warranties of the branded memory. People say this will hit its resale value, but I only got a total of £100 for the two pairs of unopened PC5300 Ballistix I sold on MM. The first pair I bought cost me £130 on its own in March.

a lot of performance ram is based on the micron D9 chips, its not just crucial.
keep in mind, the more people buying a thing the more chance someone vocal will have a problem.

i know that...but it seemed to be that in one breath people were saying they are great and in another (and usually the same paragraph) that they fail....

My second set of Ballistix PC5300 died tonight :(
PC won't POST with either stick in. First set lasted 5 weeks & second set lasted er...... 5 weeks

I've got 4 sticks of the Ballistix PC5300, of which one failed on me.

Took them about 3 days to replace it, which is good going.

I'm running them @ 2.2v with a 120mm fan blowing over them, possibly overkill, but I'd rather be safe.

You get Memory that fails, it only makes you worry becuase people post about the Memory not working.

Its not like when people get them they post, goodie they work, if they did guess how many threads their would be of that?

ooh goodie mine works (hopefully for a long time)

ordered late tues here today with my new cosair 620w psu now for some more clocking.

I wont ever buy Crucial memory again, had so many pairs of Ballistix die on me in the past. It was a joke. :p

Got my money back though, after endless RMA's.
