Hi all,
I've had these 2 512mb PC3200 Ballistix RAM (SPD 2-2-2-8) for 1.5 years now. My motherboard is Asus A7N8X2.0 Platinum with a AMD Barton 2800 running at 10.5 X 200. Everthing else besides the CPU is running at stock speed with no overclocking.
My PC has been getting around 1 blue screen a day, and various other weird application/game crashes for as long as I can remember.
Since gotten this PC together 1.5 years ago, I've got better knowledge on how everything works so I decided to look into this problem.
The first tool I used was windows memtest, and that gave me errors after around 2 or 3 minutes in. So I started changing the RAM setting in BIOS:
- change from the SPD timing of 2-2-2-8 to 3-7-7-12 or more
- voltage from 2.6 to 2.8
- speed from 200 down to 166
- swap the 2 sticks around so they work in single channel
- leave only 1 stick of 512mb on the motherboard
- upgraded BIOS to the latest 1008
...... and memtest still gives me errors, albiet a bit less than before.
Just to verify that it's not the motherboard that's at fault, I installed a 512mb OCZ pc3200 RAM I had lying around, and that works fine with memtest... I'm a bit sad because I thought I payed extra money for Ballistix at the time for precisely the reason for this NOT to happen
Do you guys have any suggestions of what I could try next? Or does this mean that there are problems with these 2 sticks and if so do you think they (I bought them from the crucial website) RMA these even after 1.5 years?
