Wenger included in the coaches shortlist, what did he do last year exactly? I can appreciate he keeps our team consistent and I do think he's a good manager but he shouldn't be on the shortlist. Also there's no Robin van Persie who has scored 38 goals in all competitions this year.

It's like I was reading on a blog, some of those names in there are completely baffling, Abidal has come through a horrific time in his life but in terms of football he shouldn't even be on the list. Hasn't Fabregas been injured for quite a lot of 2011 as well?

I'd love to see Xavi win it, I think he deserves it too.

I'm going to guess it's a fight between Messi and Ronaldo though.

Abidal beat cancer and still played 38 games last season, only 6 of those were for France. He was also freaking awesome in the champs league final to be honest, offensively and defensively. He had a bunch of exceptional games last season and is a VERY good defender, just completely over rated.

Fabregas played less than normal yet still played a buttload, 33 starts and 14 sub appearances, Iniesta got 12 goals 12 assists in his best ever season starting almost 30 more games than Fabregas in a FAR better team. Fabregas got 10 goals, 16 assists, Xavi got 5 goals 14 assists, again in far more games than Fabregas.

So if Iniesta and Xavi had exceptional years, what did Fabregas have?

RVP's finishing/goal scoring record has been immense, but he's not actually been much of a game winner for Arsenal. His scoring has gone through the roof, the rest of his game has gone the other way. A few years ago he'd create a bunch of chances for others, run the ball up the wing and cross in a killer ball or do 2 people and score from a crazy angle.

He should be on the list ahead of a bunch of people on there there. Busquets, Villa, Neymar, Pique.

Honestly, Ronaldo should win it, Messi was awesome but in the best team in the world, Ronaldo outscored him, broke league records and was phenomenal. What time frame does it include exactly, I can never remember with these dumb awards, is this calender year 2011, or "season", does it include the summer before or after it(ie world cup till may, or August till august).

Muller was freaking awesome at the world cup and had a fantastic season, Forlan didn't actually have a great season, without including the world cup Forlan had a pretty "meh" season.

How is Tevez not on there? last season which is what they are getting picked on? he was incredible and single handedly got us CL. Ridiculous.

It is "last season" but I'm not sure whether that includes summer 2010 or summer 2011. Theoertically I believe FIFA's definition of a season is normally 1st July - 30th June but I suspect the way the voting happens people will pick and choose to suit their needs i.e. the whole of WC2010 probably got included in both last years voting and this years. Either way it means the RvP brigade can pipe down a bit as it isn't based just on 2011 - although that's not to say you couldn't make a case for his inclusion above some of the players on that list.

Villa was astonishingly poor at times last season, some of the sitters he missed would even haunt me for decades, and there were bags and bags of them. Abidal lol, Wenger lol etc. these lists are like the oscars, farcical and not based on quality or ability so it's probably better to ignore them, as long as they get the winner right (it must be nigh on impossible for them to messi that up ..) (LOL)
