Balls... Didn't read the Minimum Spec for BF3

I dont think there is any 'real world' difference between playing BF3 (and other DX10/DX11 games for that matter) on either Vista or Win7. If there was a difference it would be a game specific compatibility issue. BF3 runs smooth as silk on my Vista 64bit.

The only difference to consider is if your Vista or Win7 is 64bit or 32bit. Obviously 64bit is the better choice, but again if you had a 32bit version, you probably wouldnt see any difference or negative effects on gaming performance.

£100 got me a 6870 off the MM ;)

£40 for a student upgrade edition of w7 too never goes a miss....

In all seriousness xp wasn't the best OS in 2001 (big w2k fan...) so I can't see how clinging on to it in 2011 is a good idea. :p

And vista is very similar to 7 except 7 has a different UI...

For all those questioning why OP is still on XP: Why "should" he have upgraded without a compelling reason to do so? I mean OK, now he has a reason (depending on how badly he wants to play this one game), but he clearly hasn't had one until now.

Just asking, not trying to be contentious!

Just get a windows 7 disk (free 100% legal download) and give it a free months trial before it nags you about being genuine.

What you do from then on is upto you from wink, nudge and hows your fathery, to buying a retail copy. Hell, you can just keep on reinstalling it every month if you are propper skint and extra paranoid :D

If you go directly from XP to Win7 it's the best thing you could do. That way you missed out on all the really crappy Windows versions in between.

My experience of Vista wasn't that bad, although I didn't try an upgrade, I just bought an entirely new system (laptop) with it on. However, Windows 7 is a fair bit better :)

Who could blame anyone for sticking with XP after experiencing the "joys" of Vista ? OK, Win 7 has been out for a while, but an XP owner could use the excuse "if Win 7 is anything like Vista, I'll stick with XP".

Yes, I do hate Vista.

people still using xP? lmao

because windows 7 is the OS of today not of 10 years ago - times have moved on and people being dumhat elitist by sticking to XP is just sad more than anything and if you dont have a pc thats capable of win 7 then you might as well not bother with anything pc related at all. christ even crappy £100 netbooks can run the thing

There is no "free months trial" or any legal form of acquiring the Win 7 image without owning a license beforehand.

People still use XP? on their home system?

I can understand it for businesses but not for a home system

He's on an old PC, it's normal for old systems to use an outdated OS that just works (which XP does perfectly).

Windows 7 upgrade would cost him more than his PC is worth at the moment.

You can also type the following command in command prompt

slmgr -rearm

You have to do it every 30 days, but it allows you to have win7 legally for 120 days before purchasing giving you enough time to save up your funds to buy a key.
