Hi. I have been offered to shoot a mates band for promotional material. I am unsure of how much to charge and what would the band get for the price? There is four memebers within the band so the cost could be split between them.

Should I charge for the photo shoot and give a CD of 15 pictures (lo res 640*480) and then charge for higer res.?

If so what price?

If they would like a few big blow up poster size, could I use that company that had offers on the A2 and 20*30 pictures and add a £5 on top? What is the name of that company? Forgot and lost the bookmark.

Again if so what price.

Thanks

I would guess you could charge in the region of £350 - £400 incl prints?

OMG you serious? I really dobut that I could provide shoots that warant that sort of price. LOL. My equipment is

Nikon D50
18-55mm Kit lens
70-300 Sigma
SB-600 Flash.

A whole day shooting and then post processing then organising the prints, the cd, petrol money, working hours, customer service, it is quite a big job. Providing you plan it well then £350 - £400 is cheap.

Might not get the job then lol. Never done this before so I really think that nearly £400 is a bit much. What do other memebers think? Anyone had to shoot a band before?

i go along and do it for free. if i produce anything they want, i charge per photo. normally come to an agreement beforehand, between £20 and £50 per photo i've charged before. don't charge just for going, but make sure you get in free.

Yeah that seems good advice. I mean I know one of the guitarists as he was my guitar teacher for around 2 years. Ok so the advice is to charge per photo as I may get non that are good enough and therefore I haven't charged them and its my fault.

Thanks

yeah, that's what i do. seems suitable for smaller bands - obviously if you get the chance to shoot someone bigger...charge

I thought it was for an already established band,... sorry.

shoot wise, I would get them to to set up and play some of their stuff. would say that would give you the best results.

Yeah, if they are unsigned, remember that even if they are getting paid for gigs, they are normally making a net loss, having to hang round for hours waiting to soundcheck, pack down equipment after everyone else has gone home

</sob story>

At most I woud charge your expenses for turning up, then charge per picture they want to keep :)

Shooting with unsigned bands is like shooting with random joe blogs. They have 0 money or they don't want to spend any money. I currently charge £50 and give them 5 photos for their site. Bands still think this is too much. Its such a hassle over not a lot of money. If you charge what you should they'll laugh. I charge what I think they'll pay. Its nothing really but it does get me out.

Yeah might just charge £30 for the photos say 10-15 and then i'll give them the option if they want blow up posters of the images for their bedroom etc.
