Here are some comments.... Try to get some eye contact, or emotion. One or the other can be used to draw the viewer in. The second pic you posted is not too bad. I would personally shoot almost all concert/performance stuff in portrait orientation, but that is just me. Wide angles are nice, but you want to controll what the viewer sees, so try shooting tighter as well. Finally get front on to the stage if you can.
