Hi guys,
Our band is in the process of sorting out a van to help us get around on tour but the insurance is driving us mad!
Basically, we have an old LDV 400 van. It used to be a minibus but is now a 7 seater (inc. driver) with the rest of the space for equipment.
Our main driver is 29 and we have a 23 yr old named driver.
Every one we spoke to asks EXACTLY what we're using it for and each runs a mile as soon as we mention we're a band?! What's all that about? How does a band get insured? There are plenty of them in vans out there?
Any help would be greatly appreciated on this :confused::confused:

Bands get drunk, take drugs, as do their fans (apparently) and vans get trashed, flipped over, set fire to etc etc etc.

Well thats what they fear anyway.

and to be fair, thats the life most bands would like to be living no?;)

say its for general purpose haulage of equipment and / or people

be really vague about it, and state every use you could have for it. Narrowing it down as for "my band" will probably not be helping you

dont mention the band unless they ask you, and just mention everything you could do with it. It will then end up being filed as general purpose or whatever.

Ok, I see.

I'll say hauling equipment and/or people and see what they say. I've just spent about 15mins on the phone with someone who was supposed to do this kind of thing and they just fobbed me off!

Another aparent prob is that it was a mini-bus (17 seats) but as it's now 7 seats(inc driver) it's classed as a conversion and 'they can't help'

Words slightly harsher than 'damn and blast' spring to mind!

yeah that bit cant be helped unfortunately

vans have 3 seats

minibus has 17 seats

anything in between is going to be classed as a conversion.

What a terribly talking from bottom comment.

your probably referring to twin cabs which have more than 3 seats

but as he doesnt have a twin cab its not really applicable. I was "possibly rather badly" trying to say that unfortunately when they say its conversion, it is so theres not much you can do about insurers who wont cover you for this reason.
