Hi Guys,

My bike is with a Suzuki Specialist at the moment having some work (Full, Major service) done and they believe the cylinder head has cracked as it's leaking oil from this drain port when they're pouring oil in:

From my Googling, that port leaks oil when gaskets have failed on the top of the cylinder (£2 part) but for it to leak when the cylinder head hasn't been off would indicate a crack (if the head was off it's probably the HG being disturbed). I've never noticed oil coming from this port before and I imagine I would as I'd have had oil marks all across the front of the engine.

My question is they've hinted it's beyond economical repair due to the amount of work that's been done on it already and that it will all have to be redone to strip and rebuild with a new head.

Do you think I should take a chance on it and pay for the rest of the repair?

Found an engine for £300 right next door to the garage but I've just had:

"Rob, we have a labour cost at present of £100.00 plus vat plus the collection.
You are also aware the carbs have been damaged and will also need to be replaced as the cable mounting has been broken off."

Gonna break the bandit and get something else.

Look on eBay for a spare head, carbs, shouldn't cost much I would have thought, you won't need the whole engine

Personally I think they are messing you about

Factoring in transport costs as well as the prices for the more common (my 650 only ran for two years) carbs and cyl head it's beyond economical repair imo.
The bike went to them non-running with the tank and rocker off btw so it's not like i have a leg to to stand on :D

From my understanding they were filling it up with the rocker off and it's weeping out after they wipe it away and start again.

The bike turned up bone dry so I'd assume they're lubing it up at the top first and with the comments on the carbs being broken they haven't started it up.

If they had then I think the same as you that one of the spark plug gaskets is letting oil in. I'll have to take their word on it being cracked until I can see it in the week.
