bandwidth monitoring prog

hi guys.
i seem to be getting a lot of lag gaming atm.
is there a prog that will monitor my connection so i view it later to make sure it is my connection.

i was looking for something that outputted into a line chart if thats the correct term.
whats happening is i can play ok for 20 to 30 secs then get a connection error symbol on screen for about 5 secs. everything jiggles around (technical term) and basically i'm dead in the water for that time and figure i must be lagging. 'in game' my ping goes to 999.
does anyone think it could be something else?
