Wasn't sure which forum to post this in so though I'd try in here.

I'm planning on buying my mum and dad a netbook in the next month or so, they are not heavy users, mainly just for emails and the odd Skype video chat with relatives in Italy. Thing is they are on a Sky package that gives them a 2gig download limit per month. I was planning on setting them up with a Spotify account but I'm a bit concerned that it might take them over the limit with a few hours use each month. Is it likely to?

Any Spotify users here with a low download limit per month that can comment?

Cheers,

Richy.

Wrong forum really better in networking. 2gb does seem low tbh. Ok for browsing but as soon as you get the download bug your going to hit that 2gb

Assuming by GB, you really mean GB...

2 x 1000000000 x 8 = 16000000000 Gbit
16000000000 / 163840 (average bitrate of Spotify) = 97656s = 27.13 hours.

That assumes no overheads, and nothing else using the connection.

So, a 20 hour/month free Spotify account shouldn't use the full allowance even if maxed out, but doesn't leave much room for much else (e.g. Windows updates).

Probably best to try and get them an upgraded package? or leave out the goodies... i remember back when i wasn't using internet too heavily my parents had a package like this... until the nice ISP man sent an email saying i used far too much of my bandwidth.. (HEY! downloading WoW at 12gb... took some of that :P)
