Hey,

I was just wondering what sort of bandwidth you'd require upstream / downstream to runa tfc2 or cs:s server? Would the roll out of infinity and similar allow you to run one at home for example?

in short no, you need a solid upload 10mbit at least : something even the overhyped infinity (christ its only fibre optic) will never give you, due to exchange differences etc.
you need around 250kbps per slot on average.

anything less and as soon as you get more then you and a few friends on it becomes a laggy mess with horrible hitreg.

Thats why people pay good money for external servers to do the work and probably always will.

friend used to run a server from his house was full 24 seven and never lagged 32 man was call of duty uo back in the day and his net wasnt the greatest.

Netcode seems to have gone to hell in recent years though. I used to play 80 man Tribes 2 games over a 64k isdn line, and it was flawless.

I wasn't hosting, obviously, but it makes you wonder what the hell has happened that you need a 2mb link for any decent 32man game these days.
