OK, that's pretty much what happened to my main rig (well, it was more like a 'pfft' instead of a bang...)
When it fell over, i got a nice puff of electrical smoke out the back of the pc, so assumed it was the PSU.. which it isn't, because that works 100 fine in this PC...
Not the ram, tested that in here too...
So, it's the motherboard or one of the gfx cards (now when i turn it on, all fans spin up and pumps work etc, but no output to the screen... also, there's a high pitch, pretty loud scream, duff cap anyone?)
Removed the 2nd gfx card whilst keeping it in the loop, pretty difficult, and still get the no picture to monitor and screaming noise, so i guess it's either gfx card #1 or the motherboard...
Anyway, enough of that, what i'm now going to do, becuase i was going to re-build this anyway, is remove everything, and have a crazy tripple looped system, although i'm thinking of a single powerful gfx card now that i have 2 monitors, and the intel boards clock sooooo much better...
Also thinking of going DDR3, as prices are coming down, and it'll be used more to the end of the yeah when nehalem/I7 comes out... Worth it yet? or stick with DDR2 for the cheapness for now? (money is going to be a big issue here, 2nd hand everything me thinks...)
What boards am i looking at? Crossfire is not needed, do not need raid, just something that'll clock like a beast (don't care for any kind of heatsinks on the board, as these will ALL be removed)
Also, boards such as the black ops are beyond my budget, so i guess a half decent p45 or p35 board is the way to go? Also, because i'm a man of style
rolleyes a Black PCB is going to be almost necessesary for the motherboard and the GFX card (which gfx card? GX2? Nvidia fanboy here... and they can be had pretty damned cheap 2nd hand now...)
Chuck all of your ideas at me, i'm also liking the idea of a sublte blue/purple black theme, although i'd love to keep the custom green spraypainted front bay covers, but just don't think it'll fit in with the colour theme =(
My main thought so far is the Asus Maximus II Formula, bit pricey for me, but what's it like?
Still tempted for a GX2, their prices are dropping dramatically, and they can be picked up 2nd hand very cheaply now...
