Whats bang for buck these days?

Last time i built a PC was with an E6300, DS3 and some PC8500 RAM. Back then this was relatively cheap stuff, but could overclock very well. The DS3 was a brilliant mobo for the money.

I see the i5 Sandybridges are overclocking well, but whats the best bang for buck?

This is bang for buck?

I think he is looking for something less expensive.

Currently an amd setup is best bang for buck.

For £100 the x4 955 is good value and a decent overclocker.
You could get a crossfire motherboard for £100 or a cheaper one without crossfire.
Your best option would be to look for daily deals on ram.
The 6950 for £200 is very good value as it can be unlocked but if your tight on money then a hd 6850 would be a good option.

As I understand it, if you are using you computer mainly for gaming and are on a budget then you may as well get the AMD as your gpu will likely be the bottleneck anyway. Is that correct?

I would say a AMD 955 + mobo & some ram, its all you need for playing games at the moment (and near future). You could pick this lot up for under £200 and buy one hell of a GPU!
