Hi all,

Recently came to turn on my PC and there was a bang and accompanying acrid plastic smell.
Stick on PSU blown I think.

It's a Thermaltake Smart Pro RGB 850W Bronze - about a year old.

So now the PC won't turn on but it's clear some power is getting to the mobo as the lights flicker and the AIO tries to turn.

I unplug everything connected and leave it for a few mins - come back, plug it all back in and it fires up like nothing ever happened?

I've seen PSUs blow before but never had one come back from the "dead" ?

Should I be worried or look to replace or has some fuse / switch saved me from something worse?

If you had money for that you should have had money also for quality PSU.

And wouldn't put that PSU anywhere near my PC.
Or actually inside house at all.
Who knows if its next special effects trick is fireworks.

It has only one primary cap meaning main switcher would have likely also blown up in trying to compensate for lack of capacitance.

Thanks for the solid advice.

I appreciate you taking the time to comment with no context on my choices.

You’re a credit to yourself and I value your input.
